AR 4.2 - The first wheel loader from Atlas Weyhausen with an electric drive system
Atlas Weyhausen presents the first electric wheel loader, the AR 4.2e, at bauma 2022. The wheel loader is in the 5.5 - ton class and has a standard bucket capacity of 1.0m³. The 96-volt battery capacity is 60.8 Kwh, with 84.6 Kwh available as an option. Designers chose a lithium-iron phosphate LIFEPO battery, which has low flammability. The goal is to provide 8 hours of operation.
The battery life is designed for 3000 charging cycles, which is equivalent to 3000 working days in about 15 years. Due to the battery weight of
1.2 t and the appropriate placement, no increased counterweight is required for optimal work.
The machine is equipped with three electric motors, one for the working hydraulics and two for the travel drive, and a new gearbox. Each travel motor has the rated power of 11kW @ 170A and peak power of 34kW @ 600A. The work motor has the rated power of 17kW @ 280A and peak power of 37kW @ 600A.
The associated tractive force is 47 kilonewtons. Cooling is provided by an oil-water combination for the drive train and working hydraulics. Travel speed is 20km/h.
Proven technology has been adopted from the forklift sector, which includes fully electronic working hydraulics with newly developed proportionally controlled working valves. Recuperation is provided by the travel drive. The electric motor has been placed in the place of the hydraulic motor.
The design of the AR 4.2e is such that the features are transferable to all model sizes. A stand-alone e-model series is thus envisaged.
