When machines need to prove themselves in the tough day-to-day reality of construction sites, it’s not theory that counts—it’s practice. That’s exactly why Weycor, together with the civil engineering and earthworks company R+E Todtenhaupt, took a closer look at the day-to-day use of the AR480S swing wheel loader.

Where Efficiency Makes the Difference
Requirements on civil engineering and road construction sites are diverse. Materials must be moved, pipes laid, and work areas organized—often in confined spaces. Especially along roads, cable routes, or utility lines, there is a need for flexible machines that can work productively while minimizing maneuvering efforts.
This is exactly where the Weycor AR480S comes into play. Weighing about six metric tons, this articulated wheel loader combines the performance of a traditional wheel loader with the advantages of an articulation mechanism. This allows material to be deposited precisely to the left or right of the machine without having to constantly reposition or reorient it.
Lessons Learned from Everyday Life on the Construction Site
As part of the field report, Weycor spoke directly with the supervisors at the R+E Todtenhaupt construction site about their experiences with the AR480S. It quickly became clear what advantages the swivel technology offers in day-to-day use.
Site manager Christian Klotz sees the biggest advantage primarily in the more efficient workflows on the construction site: “Especially on our civil engineering sites, every trip saved counts. With the AR480S, we can unload material right where we need it, saving us a lot of extra maneuvering.”
The articulated wheel loader enables significantly more productive work, especially when working along traffic lanes or utility trenches. Material can be positioned precisely, while unnecessary travel movements are eliminated. This saves time and, at the same time, ensures smoother and more predictable operations on the construction site.
Greater Flexibility Through Swivel Technology
While traditional wheel loaders reliably perform many tasks, the swivel function significantly expands their range of applications. The machine remains a full-fledged wheel loader, but offers additional freedom of movement in areas where workspace is limited.
According to Klotz, this advantage is particularly evident even in tight spaces: “The machine remains a full-fledged wheel loader, but offers us significantly more options when space on the construction site is limited.”
This flexibility is a crucial factor, especially in civil engineering, where construction site conditions change on a daily basis. The ability to pick up and deposit material from the side reduces maneuvering and increases the productivity of the entire construction site logistics operation. At the same time, the swivel function allows work to be performed directly next to the travel lane and enables precise loading of work areas across trenches, embankments, or other unpaved areas without having to drive over them. This makes it possible to streamline workflows and open up additional applications that are often only feasible to a limited extent with a conventional wheel loader.

Versatile in use
In addition to its swivel function, the AR480S offers great versatility. A variety of attachments—such as buckets, pallet forks, mowers, and sweepers—allow for quick adaptation to changing tasks.
For R+E Todtenhaupt, this versatility is another major advantage: “Thanks to the various attachments, we can use the AR480S for many different tasks. That makes it particularly cost-effective for us.”
Mr. Klotz sees this as a clear advantage over conventional machines: “The combination of the swivel function and various attachments opens up possibilities that we wouldn’t have with a traditional wheel loader.”
Driver Comfort and Precision
Operators also rate the machine highly. Its intuitive controls make daily work easier and allow new employees to get up to speed quickly. In addition, the ergonomically designed controls, the comfortable operator’s seat, and the standard air conditioning ensure that even long workdays on the job site can be managed comfortably and with full concentration.
Christian Klotz confirms this based on his daily experience on the construction site: “The controls are intuitive, and the machine can be steered with great precision. This allows our operators to work precisely while remaining relaxed.”
At the same time, the machine impresses with its precise hydraulics, responsive handling, and excellent all-around visibility. The successful combination of ease of operation, clear visibility, and precise machine control not only contributes to workplace safety but also supports accurate and efficient operation—especially during demanding civil engineering projects.
Practice, Not Theory
R+E Todtenhaupt’s experience shows that the advantages of the Weycor AR480S swing-wheel loader are immediately apparent in real-world construction site operations. Less maneuvering, greater flexibility, and more efficient workflows provide real added value in day-to-day use.
“The AR480S has absolutely proven itself in meeting our civil engineering needs. The machine saves time, reduces unnecessary travel, and makes our overall operations more efficient. Once you’ve used the swivel function in your daily work, you won’t want to do without it.”
